Coating questions, answered
Clear, no-hype answers on self-healing protective coatings, ceramic, PPF, cost, and longevity.
What's the difference between protective coating and ceramic coatings?
protective coatings (like Revivify) use flexible polymers that bend on impact and self-heal with heat. Ceramic coatings use rigid silica (SiO₂) that creates a hard sacrificial layer. protective coating resists rock chips better, lasts longer, and actually repairs minor swirls — but it's also more expensive and requires certified application. Ceramic is cheaper and faster to apply but wears out and can't self-repair.

PPF is a thick (8–10 mil) thermoplastic film that physically blocks rock chips. Revivify is a thin (3–5 micron) chemical coating that flexes on impact and self-heals minor damage. They solve different problems — PPF for hard impact resistance on the front end of high-mileage cars, Revivify for full-vehicle UV/chemical protection that looks like paint. Many enthusiasts use both: PPF on the front + Revivify everywhere else.

Self-healing coating is a flexible protective coating-based vehicle protection that reflows to fill minor scratches and swirls when exposed to heat from sunlight, hot water, or a heat gun. Unlike ceramic coatings that create a hard sacrificial layer, self-healing chemistry uses elastic polymers that physically restore the coating surface after light damage.
Read →warrantyHow long does Revivify coating last?
Revivify coating lifespan depends on the tier: SH Lite lasts 2 years, SH Ultra Pro lasts 3–5 years, and CarbonX lasts 7+ years under normal use. Self-healing capability is active for the full lifespan. All Revivify coatings are backed by a warranty when applied by a certified installer.
Read →pricingHow much does Revivify self-healing coating cost?
Revivify coating prices range from about $1,200 for SH Lite on a compact car to over $5,000 for CarbonX on a supercar or large SUV. Marine and aviation applications run higher due to surface area. Pricing depends on vehicle size, surface condition (do you need paint correction first?), tier of coating (SH Lite vs SH Ultra Pro vs CarbonX), and the installer's regional rates. Request a free quote from a certified installer for accurate pricing on your specific asset.
